French opposition calls for boycott of companies backing Israel

Thomas Portes, a French opposition lawmaker, on Sunday condemned Israel for actions of genocide and called on people to boycott companies that support Israel and its attacks on Gaza.

Tomas Portes emphasised the rising civilian casualties and humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli attacks and called for a boycott of companies that support Israel.

Portes, a member of the Left Unbowed France Party (LFI) known for his support for Gaza in France, published a poster on his X account with logos of companies that should be boycotted, including a well-known sports shoe brand, supermarkets and insurance companies, and the slogan: “Boycott apartheid Israel.”

“New night of horror in the Gaza Strip. New night of death for Palestinian children. Israeli war criminals continue their genocide protected by the European Union and the USA,” Portes added on X.

Israel has launched a military offensive on the Gaza Strip since a Hamas attack on 7 October that killed 1,200 people. Since the start of the conflict in Gaza, more than 31,600 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and another 73,676 injured. The UN reports that 85% of Gaza’s population has been displaced and 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.

Earlier, a judgement was handed down to Israel in the UN International Court of Justice, which implies Israel’s army not to commit acts of genocide, and guarantees humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza.
