Five organisations demanding recognition of the State of Palestine are calling for mass mobilisation on June 14 in Paris and across the country.
The unions condemn the “deadly rush forward by the Israeli authorities and their atrocities” in Gaza. Five trade unions (CFDT, CGT, Unsa, Solidaires and FSU) are calling for “mobilisation in support of Palestine” on Saturday, in particular for a demonstration in Paris.
“We call for mass mobilisation on 14 June in Paris and throughout France as part of a global weekend of mobilisation for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and unhindered access for humanitarian aid,” the organisations said in a joint statement.
Trade unions demanding recognition of the State of Palestine are calling for a rally to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Place de la République in Paris.
They call on France and Europe, in particular, to take measures to “suspend the association agreement between the EU and Israel,” “stop arms and military equipment supplies to Israel, and implement the United Nations resolution of September 18, 2024 on ending the occupation of Palestinian territory, colonisation and apartheid, release all Palestinian political prisoners and all Israeli hostages held by armed groups.”
More than 54,880 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in Israel’s retaliatory offensive in the Gaza Strip, according to figures from the Hamas-run health ministry, which the UN considers reliable.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of France Unbowed (LFI), supported the protesters on X:
“I am glad to see trade union organisations jointly calling for rallies on June 14. The CFDT, CGT, Unsa, Solidaires and FSU trade union organisations condemn the deadly policy of the Israeli authorities and the atrocities committed in Gaza.” The trade unions add: “Feeling immune from punishment, the Israeli government is openly expressing its genocidal intentions in its statements and is leading Israel to moral collapse, with the complicity of some politicians and the impotent gaze of the international community.”
