Gaza death toll approaches 40,000, more clashes in West Bank

At least 32 more Palestinians were killed on Tuesday in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, bringing the total death toll since October to 39,929, the enclave’s health ministry said.

The ministry also said in a statement that 92,240 people were injured in the attacks. It noted:

Israeli forces killed 32 people and injured 88 others in two “massacres” against families in the last 24 hours.

Violent clashes erupted between the Israeli army and the Palestinian military on Wednesday as the army attempted to storm the Tubas and Tammun neighbourhoods in the northeastern West Bank.

Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said:

Security forces launched an operation in Tubas and Tammun in the Jordan Valley area to disrupt terrorist activities, resulting in one terrorist being killed, others injured, several suspects arrested, and combat equipment seized.

Palestinian media reported five casualties after Israeli troops stormed into Tubas, surrounded and bombed a house with rockets and carried out airstrikes from drones.

In turn, the Palestinian military blew up Israeli military vehicles with explosive devices, as seen in a video showing Israeli troops withdrawing a damaged vehicle, forcing them to send reinforcements to Tammun in the Tubas neighbourhood of the West Bank.

In violation of a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has come under international condemnation for its ongoing brutal offensive on Gaza following the October 7, 2023 attack by Palestinian group Hamas.

Ten months into Israel’s war, vast areas of Gaza lie in ruins under a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel is accused of genocide by the International Court of Justice, which ordered Tel Aviv to immediately halt its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians were sheltering from the war before it was captured on May 6.
