Gaza death toll passes 50,500 mark amid Israeli assault

The death toll from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023 has increased by 100 in the last 24 hours to 50,523.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip issued a written statement sharing the latest information on the casualties and injuries resulting from the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza.

In the past 24 hours, the bodies of 97 people killed by the Israeli army attacks and 3 bodies recovered from under the rubble were taken to hospitals in the region. It is also reported that 138 people were injured in the attacks.

1,163 Palestinians were killed and 2,735 Palestinians were wounded in the attacks launched by the Israeli army on March 18 after the violation of the truce reached on January 19. In the Gaza Strip, the bodies of a thousand dead remain under the rubble.

Gaza’s Health Ministry on Thursday also sounded the alarm over the imminent collapse of the enclave’s health sector amid ongoing Israeli bombardment.

“The ongoing and intensifying Israeli aggression has led to the near collapse of the health system at a time when medical and humanitarian needs are growing at unprecedented levels,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry warned that hospitals and medical facilities across Gaza are operating beyond their capacity.

“Severe shortages of medicines, medical supplies and fuel to run equipment and generators are threatening the lives of thousands of patients and wounded, especially children, pregnant women and the elderly.”

The ministry called on the international community to “act quickly and put pressure on the Israeli occupation to immediately open the Gaza crossings and allow the entry of medicines, medical supplies and fuel without delay.”

It also called for sending international medical teams “to support exhausted medical staff in hospitals working under harsh and inhumane conditions.”

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to step up attacks on the Gaza Strip amid efforts to implement US President Donald Trump’s plan to evict Palestinians from the enclave.
