Gaza death toll rises as strikes continue despite ceasefire, local officials say

More than 700 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since a ceasefire came into force in October 2025, according to local health authorities, amid ongoing Israeli military operations that officials say continue to drive up casualties.

At least 702 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since a ceasefire agreement took effect, according to the territory’s health ministry.

Officials reported that, over the past 24 hours, hospitals received 18 injured individuals along with the bodies of 10 people killed in recent strikes. Since the ceasefire began, a further 1,913 people have been wounded across the enclave.

The overall death toll from Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 8, 2023 has now reached 72,278, with 172,013 people reported injured, the ministry said.

Despite the ceasefire declared in October 2025, Israeli forces have continued to carry out strikes on the territory, according to local authorities. Thousands of bodies are still believed to be trapped beneath rubble, including 756 people reported killed after the ceasefire came into effect.

In a separate statement on Monday, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said it had carried out a strike against a Hamas cell operating in the northern Gaza Strip.

“Overnight, IDF troops identified an armed Hamas terrorist cell operating in the northern Gaza Strip,” the statement said.

“Following identification, the IDF struck and eliminated the armed terrorists in order to remove the threat posed to IDF forces,” it also added.
