Gaza death toll surpasses 72,000 as Israeli strikes continue despite ceasefire

More than 72,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the start of Israel’s military campaign in October 2023, according to the territory’s health authorities, who say strikes have continued even after a ceasefire came into force last year.

The death toll from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 2023 has risen to 72,134, according to the Gaza health ministry.

Israeli forces continue to carry out strikes across the territory despite a ceasefire that formally took effect in October 2025.

In a written statement, Gaza’s ministry of health released updated figures on casualties from the ongoing Israeli military campaign that began in October 2023.

Over the past 24 hours, the bodies of two Palestinians were brought to hospitals, the statement said. One of the victims had been recovered from beneath rubble. Two injured people were also reported.

Since the ceasefire came into force on October 10, 2025, Israeli attacks have killed 649 people and wounded 1,730 others, according to the ministry. During the same period, the bodies of 756 people have been recovered from under collapsed buildings.

The total number of people killed since the start of the war in October 2023 has now reached 72,134, while the number of injured has risen to 171,828.

Authorities in Gaza say that thousands of victims are still believed to be trapped beneath the rubble across the enclave.
