Gaza protesters arrested after confronting Keir Starmer

Two activists were charged in the UK after clashing with an opposition leader over Gaza.

Two people have been charged in connection with “disorder offences” after Labour Party leader Keir Starmer clashed with protesters over the situation in the Gaza Strip. Those people turned out to be a 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, Police Scotland said in a statement.

Starmer later arrived in Glasgow and faced a protest from a group who accused him of being a “war criminal.” The protest also continued outside the hotel where the Labour leader was staying.

Starmer has been heavily criticised for repeatedly making provocative statements and refusing to support the ceasefire. The situation is particularly vivid after his controversial remarks in an interview where he claimed that Israel has the “right” to cut off electricity and water supplies to Palestinians living in Gaza. Starmer argues that a ceasefire would give Hamas a chance to gain strength, and as a consequence has only called for a humanitarian pause to allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and safe passage for those trapped.

At least 17,487 Palestinians have been killed and more than 46,480 injured in sustained air and ground attacks on the enclave since 7 October following the cross-border Hamas assault, and since Israel resumed its military offensive against the Gaza Strip on 1 December after a week-long humanitarian pause, the scale of the operation is known to have taken on a new dimension.
