German law enforcement authorities seized Captagon drugs worth $64.5 million after a more than year-long investigation into the Syria-linked gang, officials reported on Thursday.
About 461 kilogrammes (1,000 pounds) of Captagon pills were seized during customs checks and searches conducted at the suspects’ properties in recent months, prosecutors and investigators stated.
Most of the drugs were intended for shipment to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
The street value of the over 3.2 million Captagon tablets seized is approximately $64.5 million. The four accused, Syrian nationals between the ages of 33 and 45, are in custody.
The Aachen Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Essen Customs Investigation Office conducted the inquiry. The largest seizure was made when 324 kg (714 lb) of Captagon tablets were taken from a warehouse.
