German authorities detained three additional suspects linked to an alleged coup plot orchestrated by Prince Heinrich XIII Reuss, bringing the total number of arrested individuals to 30, according to Euractiv.
The latest arrests stem from a nationwide operation involving 300 police officers across Bavaria, Saxony, and Thuringia, targeting members of a terrorist cell accused of plotting to overthrow the federal government.
Prosecutors assert the group, an offshoot of the extremist “Reichsbürger” movement, planned to storm the Bundestag, seize power, and install the disgraced aristocrat as head of state.
The conspiracy, uncovered during mass raids in December 2022, allegedly drew inspiration from QAnon global narratives and included the creation of “lists of enemies” targeting democratic institutions.
The newly arrested trio faces charges of “belonging to a terrorist organisation” and “preparation of high treason,” according to Munich prosecutors. They stand accused of participating in tactical firearms drills at a decommissioned Bavarian military facility in April 2022, training prosecutors believe directly supported plans to attack Germany’s parliament building.
This development expands an already unprecedented case against 27 alleged ringleaders currently on trial in Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Munich courts. Among the original defendants are Prince Reuss, a former Alternative for Germany (AfD) legislator, a retired lieutenant colonel, and an ex-commando from the elite KSK special forces unit.
