German SMEs on the alert about their future sustainability

More than half of German SME managers are quite sceptical about the future and are predominantly disturbed about many aspects of their work.

Concerns of this nature stem from the fact that, in addition to bureaucratic issues and a shortage of proficiency, executives believe that rising energy prices, outdated management and a culture of scepticism about technology could lead to irreversible consequences.

As an example, up to 51 percent of the 520 CEOs of medium-sized companies have doubts about the future sustainability of their business, according to a survey conducted by Metafinanz. Half of the respondents simultaneously believe that energy and ecology will outperform other sectors in the future, while construction and media industries will hold a worse position that it is today.

In the end, practically all companies in Germany (99 percent) are either small or medium-sized enterprises, accounting for more than half of all employments in the country and 43 percent of gross value added in terms of factor costs.
