The German Navy claimed there was “no deeper message” in choosing to play the Imperial March, Darth Vader’s theme song in Star Wars films, from one of its warships as it sailed down the Thames, London, according to AP News.
The song selection sparked a sensation across Europe. The warship was in the area for training and anchored in London for a normal supply stop, the German Navy reported.
The commander can choose the music freely. The choice of music has no deeper message.
Another video recorded a warship, the Braunschweig, performing London Calling, a 1979 hit by British rock band The Clash, as it arrived in London.
The warship’s commander “is a big Star Wars fan and an admirer of the legendary musical scores of John Williams,” the embassy said in a statement.
He chooses a different Williams tune whenever his ship is visiting a foreign harbor.
