The German parliament has strongly rejected a proposal to supply Ukraine with Taurus KEPD 350 cruise missiles.
The German Bundestag voted against the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine by a resounding score of 485 to 178, with three abstentions. The proposal was backed by the Christian Democratic Union, a centre-right opposition party that has been advocating for almost a year that the missiles be sent to Kyiv.
However, the chairman of Germany’s Federal Security Council, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, has the final say on the matter. According to Politico, Scholz has historically been reluctant to agree to such requests.
This came almost simultaneously with a positive statement from France, in which President Emmanuel Macron announced the planned provision of 40 more SCALP-EG cruise missiles to Ukraine, and the UK provided Ukraine with an unspecified number of similar Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles.
