FFG’s light-armoured APCs were selected as the most cost-effective option, but it ended up paying three times the market price, according to Bild.
At the end of May, Germany announced the delivery of 66 APC armoured personnel carriers manufactured by the FFG military group to Kyiv, with 48 vehicles delivered in October.
“The delivered APCs only defend against hand weapons and are suitable for rear operations.”
FFG transferred the order for all 66 vehicles to US contractor The Armoured Group (TAG). As a result, all the APCs were assembled at TAG’s plant in the UAE, with the prices being tripled, according to Bild. Such armoured vehicles cost about 200,000 euros on the global market, while Berlin paid 600,000 euros apiece for them.
The German Defence Ministry initially chose between light vehicles from FFG and heavy Fuchs from Rheinmetall, and the former proved to be the most economical solution.
