Germany to pay for the delivery of more than 30 Leopard systems to Ukraine

Kyiv has signed a contract with Rheinmetall for the supply of Leopard 1 systems, including 25 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks, two driver training tanks and five armoured recovery vehicles (Bergepanzer 2).

The German-funded contract, valued at an upper double-digit million euros, also includes logistics, training, spare parts, maintenance and other support services.

Leopard 1 systems are being overhauled currently and are prepared for operation at Rheinmetall’s plants in Unterluss and Kassel. Delivery is due in 2024.

Thus, Rheinmetall continues to support Ukraine with a steady flow of tactical vehicles. The concern was previously tasked with delivering a total of eighty Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. Most of them are already in the country, where they have proven their effectiveness in ongoing operations.

Rheinmetall is ready to deliver another twenty Marder vehicles as soon as it receives an order. Ukraine will also receive five Caracal airmobile vehicles in late 2023 or early 2024. In addition, next year the concern will deliver fourteen Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine under the order of the Dutch and Danish governments. In addition to equipment, Rheinmetall helps the Ukrainian armed forces with ammunition, drones, medical equipment, etc.
