Google introduces new AI features for Android devices

Google unveiled new artificial intelligence (AI) features for Android devices as well as a new line of smartphones and wearable devices.

Gemini Live, a mobile conversational tool that allows users to have free conversations with an AI model, would turn mobile devices into a powerful AI assistant, the company said in a blog post.

Android Ecosystem President Sameer Samat stated:

With Gemini deeply integrated into Android, we’re rebuilding the operating system with AI at the core, and redefining what phones can do. We’ve completely rebuilt the assistant experience with Gemini so you can speak to it naturally, the way you would with another person. It can understand your intent, follow your train of thought and complete complex tasks.

Gemini Live became available on Tuesday for advanced subscribers in English on Android phones. It will be expanded for Apple’s iOS operating system and other languages in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Apple pledged to release its own AI, Apple Intelligence, on iPhones, iPads, and Macs later this year.

Google also announced the latest line of Pixel phones including Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, all packed with Gemini AI features.

Moreover, the company unveiled the Pixel Watch 3. Users will be able to plan running workouts, receive information about recovery with data on their readiness and cardio load, as well as AI-powered workout recommendations.
