A Liberian-flagged cargo vessel, the Eternity C, sustained significant damage during an assault involving sea drones and skiffs in the Red Sea on Monday, leaving two crew members wounded and two missing, Politico reported.
The attack occurred 50 nautical miles west of Sanaa, Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital, marking the second major maritime incident in the region within 24 hours.
Greek ownership company Cosmoship confirmed the vessel was en route to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, when targeted.
Its crew includes 22 Filipinos and three Indian armed guards.
A company official added that communication failures prevented confirmation of whether hostilities had ceased. Two senior Greek government sources confirmed the attack and crew nationalities.
The assault follows Sunday’s sinking of the Greek-owned bulk carrier Magic Seas, claimed by Houthi rebels, which saw drones, missiles, and rocket-propelled grenades force its crew to abandon ship before rescue by a passing vessel.
Hours before the latest incident, Israel conducted airstrikes against Houthi-held ports at Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif. The Israeli military cited weapon transfers from Iran to justify the bombings, releasing footage of F-16 sorties.
The Eternity C’s damaged communications systems hindered real-time assessment, leaving the missing crew members’ status uncertain.
