Greta Thunberg arrested at London after oil summit protest

Police in Britain charged Wednesday climate activist Greta Thunberg, who was arrested during a protest outside a London hotel where an oil and gas conference was being held, according to Reuters.

Greta Thunberg was charged with disorderly behaviour for failing to comply with conditions which police said were imposed to prevent “serious disruption to the public, the hotel and guests”. She was released on bail and is due to appear in court on 15 November. Another 25 people were detained in connection with the protest on Tuesday.

Greta Thunberg became famous after she went to weekly protests in front of the Swedish Parliament in 2018. Since then, she has been the face of young climate activists around the world.

Police have detained the 20-year-old activist at protests in Germany, Sweden and Norway this year. On Tuesday, video footage surfaced online showing Thunberg, wearing a “Oily Money Out” badge, talking to two police officers before being placed in the back of a police van. She was protesting outside the Intercontinental Hotel in central London, where the Energy Intelligence Forum, a meeting of oil and gas executives, was taking place.
