Greta Thunberg charged again

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been charged again with disobeying a police order.

This comes less than two months after she was convicted and fined for the same offence.

A Swedish court fined the activist 500 Swedish crowns ($134) on 24 July for refusing to leave a protest when ordered by police. As soon as the sentence was handed down, Thunberg and other activists from the environmental group Bring Back the Future blocked the way of oil trucks in Malmo harbour. Afterwards, they were taken away again by the police.

The demonstration did not have a permit and it led to the blocking of car traffic. The woman refused to obey the police command to leave the scene.

20-year-old Greta Thunberg represents young climate activists around the world.

This time she will face a more severe sentence if the judge finds her guilty for a second time. Disobeying a police order carries a maximum penalty of a six-month imprisonment.
