Gunmen wound four near Jerusalem

Three gunmen attacked a checkpoint near Jerusalem on Thursday, Israeli police said.

Four people suffered gunshot wounds, including one critically, the Magen David Adom emergency medical service said in a statement, while two others were lightly wounded. According to police, all the injured were security personnel. All the attackers have been “neutralised”.

The attack on a checkpoint guarding access to tunnels connecting the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem came on the 41st day of Israel’s war with the Gaza Strip, which has so far killed more than 11,300 people, most of them women and children.

The war began after Hamas carried out a surprise terrorist attack in Israel on 7 October, killing some 1,200 people. Hamas also took about 240 hostages. Israel has occupied Palestinian East Jerusalem and the West Bank since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. It has also besieged the Gaza Strip and repeatedly attacked the territory until the current war after withdrawing from there in 2005.
