Haiat: “Israel rejects with disgust the blood libel spread by South Africa”

South Africa sues Israel in the International Court of Justice, accusing it of crimes against Palestinians in Gaza, but Israel rejects its application to the ICJ.

South Africa filed a court application on Friday calling Israel’s actions in Gaza, but Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Lior Haiat said in a statement on X that “Israel rejects with disgust the blood libel spread by South Africa and its application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). South Africa’s claim lacks both a factual and a legal basis, and constitutes despicable and contemptuous exploitation of the Court.”

Furthermore, South Africa is cooperating with a terrorist organization that calls for the destruction of Israel, he stressed. But also recognised that the terrorist group Hamas was solely responsible for the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.

The Hamas terrorist organisation, which is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity and tried to commit genocide on October 7, is responsible for the suffering of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by using them as human shields and stealing humanitarian aid from them.

Israel is committed to and acts in accordance with international law and directs its military efforts only against the Hamas terrorist organization and other terrorist organizations collaborating with Hamas, while the residents of Gaza are not the enemy, because “Israel has made it clear that the residents of the Gaza Strip are not the enemy and is making every effort to limit harm to the non-invited and to allow humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip,” according to Haiat.

Though, the International Court of Justice, also called the World Court, is a UN civil court that hears disputes between countries. It is different from the International Criminal Court (ICC), which prosecutes people for war crimes. Therefore, as members of the UN, both South Africa and Israel are required to obey the Court.
