Hamas rejected a draft truce with Israel

Palestinian movement representatives have refused to accept the terms of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip proposed at peace talks in Paris, Arab Media reported.

Arab TV channels are reporting live:

“The agreement in Paris included a prisoner exchange but completely ignored the ceasefire and withdrawal from Gaza, while the resistance forces consider these issues key.”

Israel had previously agreed to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. However, the text of the agreement does not restrict the IDF from carrying out airstrikes on Palestinian territories and does not provide for the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

A new meeting on the situation in Gaza will be held soon in Cairo. Hamas will be briefed on the outcome, after which a final response will be given.

In one of the biggest battles of the war, Israeli tanks have been advancing for a fortnight on Khan Younis, the main southern city, which is already home to hundreds of thousands of people who have fled other areas. Fighting has also resumed in Gaza City in the northern sector, in areas Israel says it conquered in the first two months of the war.

The Israeli military said on Monday its forces had killed dozens of Palestinian militants in battles in northern, central and southern Gaza over the past 24 hours.

Gaza authorities say more than 27,000 Palestinians have been confirmed killed in Israel’s assault, with thousands more dead feared unrecovered in the rubble. Israel says it has killed 10,000 gunmen and lost 226 soldiers in Gaza fighting, after 1,200 people were killed in the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7.
