Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas hailed a resolution overwhelmingly approved by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, according to Arab media.
In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas said the adoption of the resolution expressed the international will to accept the Palestinians and their legitimate rights to self-determination and the formation of an independent state with al-Quds as its capital.
The group thanked the countries that voted in favour of the resolution and called on them to take more actions and decisions to appease Israel’s ambitions in the Gaza Strip.
On Wednesday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution proposed in response to a July ruling by the International Court of Justice that Israel’s presence in the Palestinian territories was illegal and must end.
The approved resolution calls for the withdrawal of all Israeli forces and the evacuation of settlers from the seized territories “without delay.”
