Hampi attack: One dead, two women assaulted

Three men attacked a group of tourists late on Thursday near a UNESCO World Heritage site in southern India. The assault left a man dead and two women – one Israeli and one Indian – injured.

The group, which included an Indian man and two women, were stargazing in Hampi when the incident occurred. Police say the attack followed a dispute over money. The men assaulted the women after pushing the men into a river canal.

Two men survived, including an American tourist. However, police found the body of the third man on Saturday morning.

Authorities have arrested two suspects and continue to investigate the incident.

Attacks on women in India have gained international attention in recent years. Last year, the brutal assault and death of a junior doctor in Kolkata sparked national protests and raised concerns about women’s safety.
