Heavy snowfall brings widespread disruption across UK

Leeds-Bradford, Manchester and Liverpool John Lennon airports suspended operations of their runways on Sunday due to heavy snowfall.

Birmingham Airport suspended operations for several hours overnight to clear snow and ensure safety, but restored operations in the morning. Bristol Airport reopened after a temporary closure but warned of possible flight delays on Sunday morning. All airports, including Belfast International Airport, have advised passengers to check with their airlines.

Snowdrifts could increase to 40 centimetres in some parts of the UK. Meteorological services have warned a number of cities of potential power cuts, as well as possible delays and cancellations of rail and airline flights.

The situation is also complicated in the medical sphere: British hospitals are temporarily accepting only emergency cases. Meanwhile, local media are already calling this snowfall one of the most significant in recent years, noting that the country was unprepared for such severe weather conditions.

According to meteorologists, the unfavourable weather will continue for at least a few more days.
