Hezbollah says it fired more than 200 rockets and a “swarm of drones” at Israeli army positions amid escalating hostilities between the two countries, Arab media reported.
The Iranian-backed group said it fired at targets in northern Israel and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Hezbollah said it responded to the killing of a senior commander named Mohammed Nasser in southern Lebanon on Wednesday.
The Israeli military reported sirens sounding in northern parts of the country and said it was striking launch pads in Lebanon.
On July 2, an adviser to Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and head of Iran’s strategic council for international relations Kamal Kharazi said Tehran would support Hezbollah with all its might if Israel decided to go to war with Lebanon.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz stated that the Israeli authorities will soon take a number of decisions to stop further attacks by Hezbollah armed units based in Lebanon. He expressed hope that the Jewish state’s alleged moves against the movement would be supported by the world community.
The two sides have been exchanging fire since the start of Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza, with Hezbollah acting in solidarity with the Islamist group.
