House Republican investigation into impeachment of President Biden

The House Republican Party’s investigation into impeaching President Biden risks an unpleasant outcome for Republicans, according to The Herald.

Republicans in the swing district will have to justify impeachment proceedings that Republican lawmakers unanimously approved as Biden’s re-election campaign succeeds with fundraising from impeachment efforts.

Notwithstanding, failure to impeach Biden could leave Republicans ready to exonerate him of election-year wrongdoing, strengthening Democrats’ arguments that the investigation is political, but Republican leaders have rejected suggestions that the impeachment enquiry is political.

Biden’s campaign email this week, signed by Vice President Harris, which called the impeachment investigation “nothing but political theatre,” was the most effective campaign email yet. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the campaign arm of House Democrats, sent out statements targeting specific Republicans on the impeachment vote.

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer also dismissed the idea that the inquiry is risky: “I think the moderate Democrats are more at risk than the moderate Republicans,” Comer told The Hill. “Because you have a historically unpopular president, a president that not only do they think he’s too old, and his policies are awful, they think he’s a crook. And one thing that Republicans and Democrats alike agree on is they detest politicians that are involved in public corruption.”

Additionally, many Republicans said they left open the possibility that they would not find impeachable offences.

Speaker Mike Johnson, regardless of the outcome, stressed the importance of a methodical process: “There shouldn’t be any such thing as a snap impeachment, a sham impeachment, what the Democrats did against President Trump. This is the opposite of that,” Johnson said. “And that’s why people are getting restless. They want things to happen quickly. If you follow the Constitution, and you do the right thing, you cannot rush it.”

The impeachment investigation is investigating whether Biden improperly benefited or used politics to benefit family members’ overseas business dealings, as well as allegations that the Justice Department improperly delayed investigations into tax crimes against his son. Hunter Biden.
