Houthis and Iran coordinate missile strike on Israel

Yemen’s Houthi movement announced it had launched ballistic missiles at Israel in coordination with Iran. This is the first public admission of joint action between Tehran and a group aligned with it.

According to military spokesperson Yehya Sarea, the group targeted the Jaffa area in central Israel over a 24-hour period. He said the attack aimed to support Palestinians and the Iranian people. He also confirmed that the strike was planned alongside Iranian military operations.

“This operation was carried out in coordination with the Iranian army’s actions against the Israeli enemy,” he stated during a televised address.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military reported that sirens were activated in several areas after missiles were launched from both Iran and Yemen.

Tensions have escalated steadily. On Friday, Israel carried out its largest military strike against Iran. On the same day, a missile launched from Yemen landed in Hebron, in the occupied West Bank. However, the Houthis did not claim responsibility for that launch.

Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October 2023, the Houthis have launched multiple missile and drone attacks towards Israel. Although most of these have been intercepted, the group says its actions are in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

In response, Israel has conducted a series of retaliatory strikes on Houthi positions. The United States also launched attacks against the group earlier this year. However, President Donald Trump later paused the campaign after the Houthis agreed to stop targeting American ships.
