Houthis attacked US destroyer and two other ships in Red Sea

Yemen’s Houthis have struck three ships, Ansar Allah movement military spokesman Yahya Saree said.

Saree said the new operations were carried out in response to Israeli crimes against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, as well as in retaliation for acts of aggression against Yemen by the US and Britain.

Saying that several ballistic missiles were fired at the US destroyer during the first operation, Saree added in his statement that “several suitable naval missiles were fired at the Captain Paris ship during the second [operation].” He also said that the attacked ship was trying to violate a Yemeni army decision to deny access to ports in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The spokesman said that the third operation was carried out by the Yemeni army’s Unmanned Air Force unit, which attacked the Happy Condor ship in the Arabian Sea with the help of several drones.

Saree added that the company that owns Happy Condor was also trying to violate the ban on entering the ports of occupied Palestine. He stressed that the Yemeni armed forces will continue their operations in solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and will only stop when the Israeli offensive on Gaza ends and the blockade on the territory is lifted.

On October 7 2023, Hamas attacked Israel. In response, Israel launched a military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Following this, the Houthis, who now control a substantial part of Yemen as well as some of the northern and western parts of the country near Saudi Arabia, began shelling ships in the Red Sea. The US and UK have responded with regular strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.
