Houthis displayed a merchant ship seized last autumn as a trophy in a Yemeni port, meanwhile the US reported one of the biggest attacks targeting shipping in the Red Sea, according to Deutsche Welle.
The US military reportedly repelled a “complex attack” by the Houthis on commercial vessels in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen on Tuesday night. The US Navy and British Royal Navy shot down more than 20 missiles and drones launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, the US Central Command reported.
The attack took place near the Yemeni port cities of Hodeida and Mokha, according to private intelligence company Ambrey.
US allied warships in the area urged “vessels to proceed at maximum speed.”
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war, Houthi militants have targeted commercial ships 26 times, vowing to continue attacks until Israel halts the conflict in the enclave.
The UN Security Council has set Wednesday to vote on a US-proposed resolution demanding an immediate cessation of the attacks. The draft resolution says the strikes impede global trade and “undermine navigational rights and freedoms as well as regional peace and security.”
