Houthis report fresh US-UK airstrikes

Yemen’s Houthi group reported three new US-British airstrikes late Thursday night on its facilities in the western province of Al Hudaydah.

Two of the airstrikes targeted the Al Luhayyah neighbourhood, the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV channel reported. In a subsequent report, the TV channel said another airstrike hit Al-Jah area in Bayt al-Faqih neighbourhood.

No information on casualties or destruction was given. There was no comment from the US or Britain on the report.

Al Hudaydah is a large Yemeni province with three vital ports and a long coastal strip.

Since early 2024, the US-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen in response to the group’s attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The counterattacks have occasionally been met with retaliation from the group.

The Houthis began targeting ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since November last year in protest against Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. On the night of January 12, in response to their actions, the US and Britain launched an attack on Houthi targets in Yemen. The White House said the strikes on movement-controlled areas of the country were defensive in nature.
