Prominent British political scientist Matt Goodwin ignited global debate after his observations on London’s decline under Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan had resonated with 12 million readers.
In his Daily Mail column, Goodwin described a capital ravaged by street crime, where homeless beggars approached him three times daily, where he dared not carry a phone amid 70,000 annual thefts, and where subway announcements proved unintelligible due to language barriers.
London is over. […] Millions have watched as a toxic cocktail of accelerated demographic change, mass immigration and economic stagnation have ripped the heart and soul out of our capital.
Official statistics reveal a deepening crisis beyond London. England and Wales recorded approximately 6.66 million crimes in 2023/24, with shoplifting soaring to 440,000 incidents, the highest ever documented.
Violent and sexual offences have also surged dramatically since the mid-2010s. The justice system buckles under this deluge: a mere 5.7% of crimes resulted in charges last year, while crown courts face 62,200-case backlogs.
Provincial towns endure particularly horrifying realities. In Telford, investigations exposed four decades of child sexual exploitation by Pakistani-origin gangs, with over 1,400 children abused in Rotherham alone, cases authorities allegedly ignored to avoid “racism” accusations.
Nearly 5,000 organised crime groups now operate nationally, laundering £90 billion annually (4% of GDP), according to the National Crime Agency.
Conservative MP Lee Anderson sparked controversy by alleging Islamists “control” Mayor Khan, reflecting broader institutional timidity. As Albanian gangs like Hellbanianz flaunt criminal wealth, the Policy Exchange think tank controversially attributes the crisis to “austerity policing” rather than cultural factors.
However, Goodwin’s warning extends beyond London. With authorities prioritising political correctness over public safety and criminal enterprises embedding themselves economically, the nation faces an existential reckoning between multicultural ideals and civic survival.
