Hundreds evacuated after Delta Air Lines Airbus A330 catches fire at Orlando airport

A Delta Air Lines aircraft caught fire at the US Orlando airport, causing the emergency evacuation of more than two hundred people.

Information about the incident, referring to the Federal Aviation Administration, was disseminated by local TV channel Fox35. According to the FAA, the incident involved an Airbus A330 airliner that was scheduled to operate a flight to Atlanta.

“Flight 1213, bound for Atlanta, was taxiing to the gate around 11:15 a.m. local time when an engine caught fire,” the aviation authority said.

There were 200 passengers on board, along with 10 crew members and two pilots. Flames began shooting out of the exhaust pipe of one of the engines as the aircraft started moving. Eyewitnesses videotaped the evacuation of passengers by inflatable emergency gangways while firefighters fought the flames.

Delta said maintenance crews will inspect the aircraft to determine the cause of the fire.

The accident follows a string of plane crashes in the US. In previous months, one plane crashed into a building in California, another, a passenger plane, crashed into a river, and a third crashed and rammed into residential buildings. In all three crashes, people died.
