Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said that former US President Donald Trump is “the only leader capable of stopping war”, Le Point reports.
In an interview with a French magazine, Orbán said that Europe would not have entered the confrontation if Donald Trump had been president in February 2022. Orbán added that this was his personal conviction. He said:
“Today, I don’t see another leader in Europe or America who would be strong enough to stop a war. Peace has a name – Donald Trump. He (Trump) did not start any wars. The Abraham Accords (about the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab states) were the only serious chance to bring peace, balance, and an acceptable way of life to a very complicated Middle Eastern region.”
Trump has previously hinted that he would cut support for Ukraine if elected and said his top priority would be an immediate ceasefire within 24 hours, without specifying the terms of the proposed peace deal.
He concluded by expressing concern about the economic consequences of Ukraine’s accession to the EU for the rest of the bloc, complaining that Western European countries such as France do not yet see the danger because they are too far away.
