A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in the centre of Ankara on Sunday before the government began its work after the summer recess. A second bomber was killed during a confrontation with police.
Two police officers were slightly injured during the attack near the Ministry of Interior Affairs, according to Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
The ministry said that the two attackers arrived in a commercial vehicle in the morning and an explosion took place in front of the entrance gate of the Interior Ministry’s General Security Directorate.
“One of the terrorists blew himself up and the other was neutralized,” the ministry added.
So far there has been no information about the attackers.
Two police officers are in hospital as a result of the clash and their health is not in danger, media reports said.
