India has dismissed Pakistan’s accusation that it played a role in a recent suicide bombing in North Waziristan.
On Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs responded to the allegation. “We have seen an official statement by the Pakistan Army seeking to blame India for the attack in Waziristan on 28 June. We reject this statement with the contempt it deserves,” the ministry said.
The attack took place on Saturday. A suicide bomber drove a vehicle filled with explosives into a Pakistani military convoy. According to Reuters, the explosion killed at least 13 soldiers. Three civilians, two children and a woman also died.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident. His office called it a “cowardly act”.
Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir warned that any attempt to destabilise Pakistan would receive a swift response.
The Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, a faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the bombing.
