India summoned Ukrainian envoy over Zelensky’s criticism of Modi-Putin meeting

India discussed with Ukraine’s ambassador to India President Volodymyr Zelensky’s remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Russia, according to The Economic Times.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the Ukrainian envoy on Monday and raised the issue, indicating displeasure over Zelensky’s comments against the prime minister.

Moreover, India postponed a meeting of a joint cultural working group with Ukraine amid the incident. Last week, Zelensky criticised Modi’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it a “devastating blow to peace efforts.”

“It is disheartening to see the leader of the world’s largest democracy embrace the world’s most notorious criminal in Moscow.”

Modi was on a two-day visit to Russia last week for the 22nd India Annual Summit. The latest summit was held in December 2021 when Putin visited Delhi. It is noted that Modi’s trip gave a great impetus to the economic partnership.

“Let’s take war, any conflict or terrorist acts: any person who believes in humanity feels pain when people die, and especially when innocent children die.”

India-Ukraine relations have fallen on hard times amid Kyiv’s ties with Pakistan, Kyiv’s criticism of India’s 1998 nuclear tests, and opposition to India’s stance on Kashmir at the UN.
