Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Ukraine, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced.
This would be his first trip to Kyiv since the war broke out and about a month after Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Details of the trip will be announced later on Monday. However, Indian media reported that Modi was likely to visit Kyiv and Warsaw on 21-23 August.
Western countries imposed sanctions on Russia since the war began in February 2022, but some countries like India and China continued to trade with it. New Delhi also refrained from directly accusing Moscow of inciting wars, calling for dialogue and peaceful diplomacy.
The US has expressed concern over India’s relationship with Russia, especially as Washington seeks to strengthen ties with New Delhi as a potential counterweight to a rising China. India, for its part, hopes to maintain friendly ties with all parties to the conflict.
