Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old student from India, was killed in Hamilton, Ontario. She had been waiting at a bus stop when a stray bullet struck her. Harsimrat was studying at Mohawk College.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday, and Hamilton Police have launched a homicide investigation.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Harsimrat with a gunshot wound to her chest. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, but she did not survive.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto expressed their sorrow in a statement. They confirmed that Harsimrat was an innocent victim of a shooting involving two vehicles. The investigation continues, and authorities are supporting her family.
Family’s grief and College’s response
The news of Harsimrat’s death has devastated her family in Dhunda village, Punjab. Sukhvinder, a relative, explained that she had moved to Canada two years ago to study medicine.
He said, “Police informed us about her death. They told us she was standing at the bus stop when a stray bullet from a gang-related shootout hit her.”
Mohawk College also expressed their condolences. A spokesperson said, “We are deeply saddened by Harsimrat’s passing. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. As part of the college community, we know this loss affects many. We will do everything we can to support those impacted by this tragedy.”
