Indonesia suspends participation in US-led Board of Peace initiative

Indonesia has suspended its discussions on the Board of Peace initiative launched by US President Donald Trump. The move follows rising tensions in the Middle East and the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to media reports on Friday.

Foreign Minister Sugiono explained that the decision responds to recent developments in the region. He said the escalation had shifted international attention toward the consequences of the Iran conflict, which directly affects the foreign policy priorities of countries involved in the initiative.

Sugiono added that Indonesia would carry out intensive consultations with Gulf partners, who are directly impacted by the rising tensions and attacks.

Indonesia’s involvement in the initiative has faced domestic criticism. Political and religious groups argue that participation in a council led by the Trump administration could undermine Indonesia’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause.

In particular, the Indonesian Ulema Council called for an immediate withdrawal, describing the initiative as ineffective while military operations continue in the region.

According to Middle East Monitor, Indonesia’s suspension comes amid high regional tensions and growing scrutiny over diplomatic discussions related to the initiative.
