Iran, Pakistan envoys return to duty

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Muhammad Mudassir Tipu and Iran’s Ambassador to Islamabad Reza Amiri Moqaddam returned to their posts earlier in the day, according to Arab Media.

Rasul Mousavi, director general of South Asian Affairs Department at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said the people and officials of both countries are pleased with the restoration of good relations.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian issued a joint statement on Monday after a telephone conversation that said the ambassadors of both countries would return to their posts by January 26.

The announcement came on Friday after Pakistan held an emergency security meeting with military and intelligence chiefs to discuss the recent upheaval when the two neighbouring countries witnessed an escalation of cross-border tensions over Iran’s counter-terrorism operations.

Pakistan’s interim Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar announced on 19 January the full restoration of diplomatic relations with Iran and added that it was in the interest of Iran and Pakistan to take steps to restore relations to the level before the recent tensions.
