More than 1,600 Afghan migrants have been expelled from Pakistan and Iran, according to Arab media.
Pakistan deported 184 migrants and Iran expelled 1,430, according to data released by the Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees on 14 July. The migrants entered the country through the Torkham border crossing as well as the Silk Bridge border town in the western province of Nimroz.
This latest wave of expulsions follows a similar mass expulsion the previous day, when nearly 2,000 Afghan migrants were deported by both countries.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has confirmed that Pakistan will suspend the expulsions of Afghan migrants. However, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the deportations had not stopped and would continue as planned.
Last November, local media reported that Pakistan had started deporting Afghan refugees.
