Iran reaffirms nuclear transparency under IAEA oversight

Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation (AEOI), stated that the country’s nuclear activities remain open and fully supervised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He made these comments on Friday after meeting members of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs in Tehran.

Eslami stressed that Iran does not pursue nuclear weapons and has clearly excluded them from its defence policy.

He said Iran has maintained a peaceful approach, even under years of political pressure and threats.

Eslami criticised efforts to portray Iran’s nuclear work as a threat. He described these claims as politically motivated and lacking in professionalism.

According to Eslami, the IAEA carried out over 450 inspections in Iran during 2024. These inspections made up nearly a quarter of the agency’s global checks.

He pointed out that Iran holds just 3% of global nuclear capacity. Despite this, it remains one of the most closely monitored countries by the IAEA.

The Pugwash Conferences aim to use scientific knowledge and logical analysis to address global risks from nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction.
