Iran says to submit own nuclear proposal to US

The next round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington on the Iranian nuclear issue is scheduled for Sunday and will take place in Oman, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.

“Based on the consultations that have taken place, the next round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States is scheduled to take place this coming Sunday in Muscat,” said ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai.

According to a post on the foreign ministry’s Telegram channel, its head, Abbas Araqchi, will travel to Norway on June 11-12 to attend a conference in Oslo.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that US-Iran talks would continue on Thursday, June 12.

“We will have a meeting with Iran on Thursday. So we will wait until Thursday,” Trump said in response to a question about whether Washington had received any counterproposals from Tehran as part of the resolution of the Iranian nuclear programme.

At the same time, the American president reiterated that the US does not accept Iran’s enrichment of uranium.

Trump mentioned that Tehran had already sent “its thoughts on the agreement,” but, according to the White House chief, they were “unacceptable.” However, he did not specify what the Iranian proposals were.

On Monday, Baghai said that Tehran would soon send the US proposals on Iran’s nuclear programme via Oman. Baghai called on Washington “not to miss this opportunity” and to take the proposal seriously.

At the end of May, Tehran received US proposals for reaching an agreement on the nuclear issue.

Since April 12, five rounds of indirect talks have been held between Iran and the US, with Oman acting as a mediator.
