Iran’s supreme leader backed president Pezeshkian

Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei officially endorsed Masoud Pezeshkian as Iran’s new president, according to Arab media.

I, hereby, endorse the nation’s vote for the intellectual, honest, popular, and scholarly person, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, appoint him to the presidency.”

The ceremony took place on 28 July at 10:00 a.m. local time at Imam Khomeini Hussainiya (a congregation hall) in Jamaran village north of Tehran. It was attended by government and military officials, professors and chairmen of religious schools and universities, representatives of various guilds, a group of martyrs’ families, and foreign ambassadors. Khamenei read the text of the endorsement during the ceremony.

Khamenei later urged the newly elected president to harness the country’s natural and human potentials for its development.

No internal affair should be dependent on foreign issues.

Pezeshkian vowed to “serve the nation with all his heart” and restore honour and dignity to the country. He stated that his government would move to fulfil the goals of the “development plan” outlined by the leader and ratified by parliament.

According to the constitution, the president’s four-year term begins after the confirmation ceremony, which takes place before the official inauguration on 30 July at 4:00 a.m. local time in parliament.

EU deputy foreign policy chief Enrique Mora, a Russian delegation led by State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, a high-ranking delegation from China, Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Muradov, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will be among those attending the ceremony.

After the inauguration, the president will have two weeks to present his cabinet to parliament for a vote of confidence. Pezeshkian also pledged to hire people from all political factions to restore unity in the Iranian government.

In the end, naturally, we will go to the leader for consultation to reach a final conclusion.
