Iraq launched 15 strikes on US base in Syria

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Monday that about 15 missiles were fired from Iraq at the Rumalyn landing zone in Syria.

CENTCOM added no personnel were injured and no equipment was damaged. It noted in a statement:

“Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve located the point of origin with uncrewed ISR assets and passed the location to Iraqi Security Forces who moved to and investigated the site.”

Iraqi armed groups announced on Sunday that they had struck a US troop base in Syria. During the past two months, attacks on the US interests have increased across Iraq amid rising anti-American sentiments over Washington’s unconditional support for the Israeli regime’s ongoing war against the besieged Gaza Strip.

In a statement obtained by Arab World news agency, the groups said they fired a “barrage of rockets” at the Kharab al-Jeer base in northeastern Syria and hit the target directly.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted the presence of an airstrip for US military cargo planes and a helipad at the Kharab al-Jeer base.

The United States is leading an international coalition to fight ISIL in Iraq and Syria called “Operation Inherent Resolve.”
