Ismail Haniyeh urges Blinken to stop Israeli “aggression”

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to end Israel’s “aggression” in Gaza.

In a video message posted on Hamas social media yesterday, Haniyeh expressed hope that Blinken “learnt the lessons of the past three months” during which Israel has relentlessly shelled Gaza in an attempt to destroy the Islamist group.”

“We… hope that he will be more focused this time on ending the aggression” as well as “the occupation of all Palestinian lands,” the Qatar-based Hamas chief added.

The US is Israel’s main military and political supporter and has repeatedly refused to back calls for a ceasefire.

Haniyeh noted that US support for Israel “has caused unprecedented massacres and war crimes against our people in Gaza.”

The US diplomat arrived in Turkey at the start of a trip that includes visits to Israel and the occupied West Bank, as well as several Gulf countries.
