Israel attacks Gaza amid ceasefire, two killed in West Bank

The Israeli army struck a bulldozer in the central Gaza Strip on Monday, killing one Palestinian and injuring others, in a new violation of the ceasefire.

Israeli army targets bulldozer despite ceasefire

According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, eyewitnesses reported that the bulldozer was helping a stranded vehicle in the Nuweiri neighbourhood, west of the Nuseirat refugee camp, when an Israeli aircraft struck it, killing the driver and injuring others.

This is the second fatality caused by the Israeli army since Palestinians began returning to the northern Gaza Strip. Earlier, an Israeli airstrike on displaced civilians returning through the coastal Al-Rashid Street killed a Palestinian girl and injured three others.

The Israeli army admitted firing at Palestinians and their vehicles in different areas of Gaza on Monday, saying they had entered unauthorised areas.

Earlier, displaced Palestinians from southern Gaza began returning to the north. The Gaza Media Bureau reported that more than 300,000 people crossed into northern Gaza through Al-Rashid Street in the west and Salah al-Din Street in the east.

The ceasefire, which began on January 19, halted Israel’s devastating war that has killed more than 47,300 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded more than 111,400 since October 7, 2023.

Israeli air strike kills two militants in West Bank

At least two Palestinian fighters were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the town of Tulkarm on Monday.

Hamas said this, emphasising Israel’s renewed focus on armed groups in the occupied West Bank after the start of the Gaza truce.

According to Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that controls the Gaza Strip, the two killed on Monday were members of its armed wing. However, eyewitnesses in the city reported that a raid was underway.

The Israeli military said it had struck a Hamas-led militant in Tulkarm, who it said was responsible for numerous attacks on Israelis, and that it had killed another militant. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that two people had been killed but did not give their names.

A major operation involving hundreds of Israeli soldiers backed by armoured vehicles, drones and helicopters in Jenin, in the north of the country, looks set to enter its second week, it has been learned, with smoke rising over the refugee camp adjacent to the town.
