Israel carried out an airstrike on Baalbek, Hezbollah responded

Israel launched an airstrike on Baalbek Sunday morning, a Hezbollah stronghold in eastern Lebanon, wounding at least three people, Arab Media informed.

The strike reportedly occurred minutes after midnight, wounding three people, being the latest on the area in recent weeks.

The strike came hours after Hezbollah said it had used two explosive-laden drones to attack Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system in the northern Israeli town of Kfar Blum.

The Israeli military said the warplanes attacked a workshop used by Hezbollah for military activities. It added that some 50 rockets were fired towards Israel after the strike from Lebanon, saying that some of them were shot down and others landed in open terrain.

Hezbollah said in statement that in response to the “bombing of a place in the city of Baalbek” it targeted an Israeli missile and artillery base in Yoav and the Kaila barracks with more than 60 Katyusha rockets.

On 12 March, a pair of Israeli airstrikes near Baalbek killed at least two people and wounded 20, further deteriorating relations between Israel and Hezbollah over Israel’s war with Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
