Israel continues its active bombing of the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of people. Another attack on Tuesday left more than 50 people dead.
“As a result of Israeli strikes on the city of Gaza and the northern and central areas of the Strip since Tuesday morning, 50 people have been killed,” sources in the Gaza Health Ministry said.
On Monday night, the Israeli military attacked targets in the province of Deir al-Balah, the town of Bani Suhaila in Khan Younis province, the Nuseirat camp for displaced persons and the city of Gaza.
According to Palestinian media, 148 people have been killed in Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours.
In addition, according to the Ynet portal, the Israeli military attempted to capture one of the commanders of the “Al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades,” the military wing of the Palestinian armed “Popular Resistance Committees,” Ahmed Sarhan. He was involved in gathering intelligence and was killed during the Israeli operation. The IDF, in turn, denied these reports.
“The IDF is conducting Operation Gideon’s Chariot in Gaza. There is no change in the assessment of the situation,” the IDF said.
On Sunday, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that Israel would allow “basic food supplies to enter the Gaza Strip to prevent a humanitarian crisis.”
Local media report that Israel imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip on March 2 to put pressure on Hamas. Israeli officials claim that during the ceasefire in Gaza, Hamas took control of a significant portion of the humanitarian aid entering the enclave and used millions of dollars from its sale “to pay for the services of members of its military wing.”
Operation Gideon’s Chariot in Gaza
Late on Friday evening, the IDF announced the launch of a major offensive in the Gaza Strip, dubbed Operation Gideon’s Chariot, aimed at “capturing strategic areas” of the Hamas-controlled sector “in order to achieve all the objectives of the war in Gaza, including the release of hostages and the destruction of Hamas.”
Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of France Unbowed (LFI), is once again trying to draw attention to the problems in Gaza:
“Israel’s moral suicide under Netanyahu’s leadership continues in the form of sadistic actions against the Palestinians. Today, cruel people allowed three trucks with humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. Three. To enjoy their suffering in accessing food and medical care? As a provocation to the outraged international community? These crimes will never be forgotten or forgiven. Nothing justifies the silence, tolerance, passive complicity and offensive aggression of those who tolerate this disgusting spectacle.”
