Israel warns Tehran of retaliation amid ongoing missile strikes

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has issued a stern warning that Tehran could face severe consequences should Iran continue to carry out missile attacks on Israeli territory.

According to The Times of Israel, Katz made the remarks during a high-level security briefing attended by Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, Mossad Director David Barnea, and other senior military officials.

Katz stated that Iran’s leadership was endangering its own population, particularly residents of the capital, by initiating attacks on Israeli civilians. Referring to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, he said: “The Iranian dictator is making hostages of his own citizens and creating a situation in which they, especially those in Tehran, could suffer serious consequences for the assault on Israeli civilians.”

“If Khamenei continues to launch missiles at Israeli population centres, Tehran will face a harsh response,” Katz added.

In related comments, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and Air Force Commander Tomer Bar indicated that plans for further airstrikes in Tehran were under way. They stated that Israeli fighter jets would be deployed to strike designated targets in the Iranian capital.

This follows a major Israeli airstrike early on Friday, which reportedly targeted Iranian nuclear facilities and missile sites. Several senior military figures and nuclear scientists were reported killed in the operation.

Later the same day, Iran responded with a wave of missile and drone attacks. Israeli media reported that three people were killed and 172 others injured in the strikes.
